So, is Mortal Kombat a good movie? Not really. Is it a great film adaptation of the Mortal Kombat video game? Absolutely.
It's weird, basing this film on cinematic norms, this film is terrible. If you have a passing interest in the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, it's exactly what you'd expect. The gore is here. The fatalities and one liners are here. The costuming and fight choreography is on point.
The story is what let's down this film. There's too much lore crammed in while at the same time seeming like not enough is explained.
The crazy thing though? I had an absolute blast with this movie. As a passive fan of the video game franchise, this movie delivered exactly what I wanted. At least than 2 hours, it was a brisk watch and a fun way to waste an evening.
It's instantly forgettable and clearly trying to build the film franchise but there's no denying that it's a fun watch.
